Blackthorn Golf Academy is located on the sprawling luscious grounds of South Bends premier golf course and practice facility, Blackthorn Golf Club. Our goal is simple: To help you improve at the game of golf, while having fun in the process. We work with all skill levels, from someone’s first time being introduced to the game, or perhaps a reintroduction back to it after a while away from it. Whatever the reason may be, we have you covered from beginner to a seasoned professional. So when you’re ready to start, improve, or just have have more fun enjoying this wonderful game of golf. Our junior programs include group lessons, individual lessons and golf camps that work on all aspects of the game. Our highly skilled instructors have years of teaching experience and are excited to show those growing into the game just how fun it can be. We will encourage and develop good fundamentals now, so their golf swing is sound and their golfing future is fun and enjoyable.
At Blackthorn Golf Club we believe love of the game knows no age and that it actually begins very early. To promote and grow the game of golf, we’re offering a great summer camp experience for students between the ages of 6-13. We offer a fun, positive group environment with team competitions and prizes all week long.

Many golfers come to us without ever having had any instruction at all! We love working with novice golfers because we get the unique opportunity to instruct and follow through on behaviors that work for you as an individual.
Adults typically come to us having had some form of instruction, but not always. Our goal is to help you improve on the good habits while getting away from those habits that may be hindering your game. We will work with you to identify your goals and show you how a few simple adjustments in your swing now will lead to a much more enjoyable time on the course now and in the future.
WHO WE ARE
Randy Anderson
Randy is a native of South Bend, Indiana and graduated from Lasalle High School in 1985 and then Indiana University – Bloomington in 1991.
He has been a Golf Teaching Professional in the area since 1995 and has held numerous positions in the golf industry with Dick’s Sporting Goods, Elcona Country Club and Blackthorn Operating Group. Randy has been in the customer service business for over 30 years, has given over 10,000 lessons and is proficient in all forms of club repair. Also, he is a certified club fitter for every major golf manufacturer. He is currently on staff as a Club Professional with TaylorMade as Director of Instruction for Blackthorn Operating Group.
MATT HARRELL
Matt is an Indiana native, who worked at Blackthorn before graduating from New Prairie High School in 1999.
He went on to graduate from the Professional Golfers Career
College in 2001. After College, Matt lived in Los Angeles, working for a series of high profile celebrity clients. Now, he returns home to Blackthorn, eager to share his knowledge and experience with our local golf community. From the mental aspects of the game, inspiration and motivation, to refining those critical techniques needed to master the short game, Matt has learned how to find what works for the individual, so students can discover how enjoyable it is to play well as they improve.
